Our Story

It all began in Bondi with an ethos built on quality, culture and community.

Where we Started:

After school was out I left Sydney as quick as I could to chase my dream of snowboarding, skating and surfing across the world. I was born in the States to Aussie parents so took advantage of my US passport and carved out 10 years of epic memories. It was also where I discovered real decent Mexican food, like Aussies had never seen and I swore to bring this back to the motherland. Once back, I quickly married my girl and together we set about taking over the world one Mexican restaurant at a time.
We started in Bondi, opposite the beach, the perfect spot to roll out tasty tacos and frozen margaritas. Ten years on we’ve built 14 individual restaurants with their own unique feel and style. The beauty is they are all company owned, we’re still a family business. We’ve also got three little burrito babies sharing the journey now too. They are regulars in the venues, so if you see some  skating, dancing kids that look crazy, eating tacos, they’re ours.

From our Family, to Yours:

We started Beach Burrito Co as a starry eyed newly married couple and before long were quickly joined by one, two, and now three Beach Burrito babies. However the Burrito family is so much more than just us. Incredibly we have managed to convince family from both sides to join us on this journey. Our General Manager is my brother Craig, our HR Manager Bella is Emma’s sister and the interior design dream team is headed up by my sister in law Olya. To top it off pretty much every cousin, niece and nephew works or has worked in one of our restaurants. As owners we are still hands on 24/7.
Although my title is CEO, I’m a chef at heart and can regularly be found working the line in one of our kitchens. In between raising the kids Emma does a bit of everything. Whether that be WHS duties, staff training or restaurant styling. Some days you will find us in head office, others working in the restaurants, you may have been served by one of the Read’s last time you ordered your favourite burrito! Seriously though, we are blessed to be surrounded by talented, extraordinary people we are lucky enough to call family. That family extends to each and every person working at Beach Burrito. They are an integral part of the company and their dedication to our brand’s ethos is testament to our success.

Only the Freshest Food:

Since we began in 2007 our mission has always been to bring you honest Mexican food which represents  The very best, the very freshest and the most delicious we can. This means we work very closely with all of our suppliers to understand and ensure quality and seasonal trends of produce we bring into our restaurants. We know all of our suppliers and delivery drivers by name, we’ve worked with most of these folks since the beginning, and they are part of the Beach Burrito family. As a family business, we strongly believe in supporting other great family businesses and growing our success together. We always have, and we always will.
